Blurry on Self, Sharp Focus on Food

I have fallen off the face of the planet.
While not entirely true, I am enjoying the disconnect. My employers were kind enough to give me time off to travel home to see my grandfather for the holidays, and I am getting some much needed downtime. Sometimes it takes a removal from our habitual surroundings to fully realize just how stressed we really are. I am sick, but starting to feel better. I am tired, but starting to rest. I am so behind on my blogging and social media interaction, but currently, that is not at the top of my "to do" list. I need to disconnect in order to reconnect.
PS
In sweet anticipation of my arrival, my grandfather has stocked the house with all my favorite foods. As a result I have been eating copious amounts of bread, butter, and ice cream. So if I look a little fuller in the cheeks the next time you see me, do be kind!

Wow Amber, looking at you in these photographs reminds me of just how amazing an eye for fashion you’ve got. If I was to see you at the airport I’d swear you were either someone famous or someone that makes people famous. Whereas most folk will travel in sweatpants, you travel in style. You almost remind me of an American version of myself.

Talking of Americans, you asked me: “... what is it with American culture with older men and much younger women? Are all women in Hollywood supposed to have daddy issues?” Well, I’ll defer to you on that one. You live closer to that place than I do and have a gender advantage, too. I don’t know what it is about American young women swooning after older blokes, but I hear Chinese girls also have a similar fetish. I think it has something to do with trying to find security in life, like, for example, Anna Nicole Smith and that billionaire octogenarian. That was a match made in Wall Street.

Garden State is a movie you identify with? From which angle, may I ask? That film is, to me, a suburban white male fantasy, one that veers onto irksome at times. I mean, there’s a scene where Zack Braff says to a character that lives by a deep trench “have fun looking into the abyss,” and he pensively responds by saying “you too,” at which point a sophisticated Eurocrat like me groaned. (I’m sure I’m reciting the dialogue incorrectly.) Still, I am intrigued by the notion that Garden State evokes a miniseries of your life. This deserves elucidation, Amber.

Have fun at your granddad’s and feel free to introduce him to my years long campaign to preserve white guys with guitar culture. I’m sure he’ll agree it’s a worthy cause and we need all the help we can get. Also, are you saying you’ve never heard of a movie called American Beauty? Are you 15-years-old by any chance?
