This past Thursday I was invited to Kathryn McCarron Design's studio.
I had never been to a fashion designers studio and I was so excited - I had no idea what to expect!
I first came across Kathryn's designs the weekend prior at the San Francisco Fashion Week.
Oh readers, it was love at first sight. Her collection of soft grays,
black knitwear and delicious doses of lace, it felt like my dream
wardrobe was prancing right in front of me. Her designs had the perfect
ease that I crave in dressing: effortless, I just rolled out of bed looking this good without even trying style. A California gal all the way.
So, imagine my surprise when she told me she is originally from the Chicago area!

Kathyrn
McCarron after graduating from the Art Academy in New York with her
Masters, entered into a designer competition for New York Fashion, week and won. Models such as Irina Lazareanu and Daul Kim
walked for her debut on to the New York fashion scene. Features of her
work were published in WWD and Daily News. Kathryn quickly landed
herself a job first working as an assistant sweater designer on
Broadway, and later moved to Madison, working as an associate designer.
For a new graduate, life was a dream.

So why California?
She
wanted to work for herself. Also, her designs have major Golden State
feel; her designs truly seem to fit the quintessential California girl.
Kathryn
herself is personable, and incredibly nice! While at her studio (to
which I was nearly 30 minutes late to - I ran nearly 20 blocks!), her
intern Lauren was steaming garments (over-sized white knit tees with
angled pockets, and red lace) while also sewing on pockets. I was
invited to try on her entire collection - and due to the
circumstances of my changing right in front of her - I dare say we
became quickly acquainted. She is the kindest person! So very easy to
speak with! She even went on my blog to check it out.

At
the end of this month, Kathryn McCarron will be moving her design
studio to LA where she hopes to get back into doing (some) sweaters,
which she really loves. In the unique process of knitwear, Kathryn hand
picks her yarns, and then creates the knit on her very own
machine. Once the knit is created, she will then begin the structural
process of the actual garment. "Everything is yours from beginning to
end" She says.
Kathryn will be arriving with the perfect LA greeting: her designs will soon be entering Madison stores!
ps.
Wondering where the photos of my gift are?? Next post! This posting is HUGE! haha
