Memories of Paris

Do you save memorabilia from trips? I do. I have hat boxes that I fill with strange papers, shells, fliers, ticket stubs and even flowers and paint chips (I once scraped gold off the ceiling of Saint Peter's in Rome. I figured they could spare a nail full).
My hat boxes are very personal to me. I don't usually share them with people, and when I do revisit them it's a mixture of happiness and longing. It's amazing how the mind works - how an image can conjure up smells and sounds and even textures (the dress to LM Lulu tag pictured can be seen HERE). There are so many stories that lay whispering in these boxes, and not one will be forgotten.
This is my Paris box. Well, my Paris summer of 2006 box.
The Mona Lisa me is an awesome memory that I love to relive: my Honors class and I were standing outside the Musée d'Orsay, and there were two vendors: one was selling paintings and the other these photos. The one taking the photos was complaining about his back. "Ooww" He'd moan. And then glance at me. "Ooww!" This went on for a while, until I just stared.
"Mademoiselle, please. Can you rub right here?"
I could feel my eyes widen. But I just stared.
"Mademoiselle, look do you like this mans paintings? I'll buy you one - two! Just, please, you rub?"
He got a back rub, and I got a painting (of a sunset sky over the Pont Alexandre III ) and this Polaroid.

  1. Funny about the man and his back! How great for you though, that you were able to score two items of memorabilia. I love your hat-box idea, all these scraps from your trips are great! http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/

  2. I love Paris. It's just so magical. I was there in the spring of 2006 so that's funny! I was only there for a weekend but i remember it fondly and long to go back. I had delicious ice cream, a baguette, and the most incredible trip up the Eiffel Tower.
