December Layering; California Style

Today's outfit is the epitome of everything I have been leaning towards lately; black, white, grey, layers, texture play, and stripes; satin and suede, leather and wool, timeless classics, and menswear. My favorite thing about Californian winters is all the wonderful layering opportunities. I know a few posts ago I waxed rather poetic about how I wanted to layer this striped top under everything. As you can see, the layering urge is still strong! (As a form of self-intervention I have recently purchased other potential layering pieces. A woman has to have options, after all.)

I decided that my Coolway over the knee boots called for a more sophisticated silhouette, as one wrong move could move me into Pretty Woman territory. I kept things feminine with a classic little black dress, but also made things weather appropriate with a long sleeve top, and a cashmere-wool coat from the men's department. I love how all the textures play together! My Banana Republic purse picks up the little flecks of tan in the coat, which really ties everything together quite effortlessly, while the stripes and tweet make for a subtle form of pattern mixing.

Are you excited to know who won the free pair of shoes from last month's subscriber giveaway? I'll be announcing the winner in this months newsletter!
