My July Hyper-fixations: What I'm reading, eating, wearing, and styling in July

Reading

In Montparnasse, by Sue Roe
A unique perspective on a neighborhood in Paris: Montparnasse. Set just before World War I, Roe takes us from In Montmartre (her first book) across the River Seine and on to the Left Bank. She explores both the lives and impacts of the artists and the wars on the city and the legacies they left behind. From Picasso to Dali and many artists in between, she shares with us the evolution of the Surrealist movement, the birth of DADA and how it migrated from Germany to France, and how the World Wars shaped, influenced, and destroyed the artists swept up in its path. A fantastic and interesting read that will certainly shape and alter how you look at art from this period.

Fresh fruit smoothies

My absolute favorite one to make right now is one of strawberries, watermelon (both frozen) blended with coconut cream and fresh lime juice. Perfection! A quick easy recipe for it is below. A similar recipe has been posted here
  • 1 handful of whole, frozen strawberries
  • Equal amount of cubed and frozen watermelon
  • A splash of unsweetened coconut water
  • 1/3 - 1/2 a can of coconut cream (make sure no sugar is added. Can choose the low fat version if you'd like)
  • The juice of one lime

Blend! If its too thick, add some more coconut water.

Skincare + Makeup

Whole Foods has the best cotton ovals. You heard it here first!! I always stock up when I'm near a store, and never let my back up supply get too low.

The Sensual Skin Enhancer has been a game changer for me. I love that I can adjust the coverage depending on how I feel for the day - sometimes I just skip the Enhancer all together and use the Glass Skin Enhancer. Each way is so beautiful on my skin. Be sure to check out this best seller as well (at more than half the price!).

Ponds Cold Cream and makeup remover has been a staple of mine for about two years now. Nothing removes water-proof mascara better than this!

I am on my sixth (seventh?) bottle of Isdin sunscreen, and I don't think I will ever stop purchasing this product. The FushionWater Magic is a nice one, I also like their anti-melasma sunscreen as well.

Style

I have been living in my Levi's 501's lately. You really cannot beat a classic.

Mixing jewelry tones of gold and silver and white gold will always be so chic to me. When I see it on other women I think yes! Someone else who also knows and agrees that metal stacking is playful and fun.

Longines timepieces aren't flashy - and that is what I love about them. I don't need people to know what watch I am wearing from 20 meters away.
