With summer having made an early appearance in Sonoma County, all the locals have been flocking to the several outdoor events that have jump started the season. There was a music festival at the fairgrounds over the weekend, which left several of my favorite restaurants pleasantly empty.
To celebrate the warmer weather I have been reaching for my lighter weight items, cropped styles, and cute strappy sandals. Summer always seems to bring out the bohemian in me; I want to wear the loose billowy tops, and I dream of travel. Perhaps it's the longer days with the warmer nights, mingled with the sense of rebirth (my birthday is in the late summer, and I usually see it as the beginning of my 'new year'). Some of my fondest memories were made the in the summertime: such as traveling across Europe with my mother, watching the 9:30 pm Parisian sunsets on the Pont des Arts with my college classmates, or sitting on my aunt's rooftop looking up at the stars in Colorado in a town I can no longer remember.
Summer to me means hot muggy days, heatwaves and lemonade, cramped train rides to exotic destinations, new friends, postcards to and from friends, and night blooming jasmine. But - I have lived in SoCo long enough to know that summer isn't here yet...This is just a heatwave. Summer here starts late, and won't leave until mid-October!
For those of you looking to freshen up your summer wardrobe, I have found a darling and fresh alternative to the traditional capri jean: the cropped and frayed style. The uneven hem, with the fraying is a fresh style that will give any outfit plenty of visual appeal (and a great way to bring attention to your shoes!). My jeans are quite fitted, but looser styles are just as cute as well. Mother Denim has a great selection of this type of style.
