A•Mused: Black and White Striped Coffee Table

Several months ago, I decided to tackle my first major DIY project. When we had first moved into our (then) new apartment, we desperately needed furniture (moving out of a 300 sq ft studio will do that to you!). This $5 coffee table was one of our first purchases. I had been waiting for inspiration to strike when it came to repainting it, and I am so glad that I waited. I couldn't be more pleased with the way that it turned out! I especially love the visibility of the wood grain. Originally the table was completely unvarnished, and it was nice to have something so 'raw' to work with. You can catch a peek of what it used to look like, here.

I had originally planned on saving the photos of it until I shared the rest of my apartment with you, but figured now was a better time. The coasters that you see on the table were made to match, and I did them both together as a project. They're actually made out of bathroom tiles that I picked up at Home Depot! I used scrapbook paper for the patterns, and glued felt on the bottom to keep them from scratching the table surface.
