DIY Hair Recipes to Repair Winter Damage

Hello spring! Now that the new season is here, it is time to change our hair regimens. Did the cold weather leave your curls dry and brittle? Try adding these DIY recipes to assist with repairing winter damage.

Olive Oil and Aloe Vera Pre-Poo
Pre-poo is an essential step to my washday. It allows me to moisture and detangle my hair thoroughly before cleansing. At times, I use a clarifying shampoo and it can often leave my curls dry. This provides an extra layer of moisture protection for my curls.
Ingredients:
Aloe vera leaf
2 tablespoons of olive oil (more if needed)
Steps:
1. Cut and peel the desired amount needed from the aloe vera leaf. Extract the aloe vera gel from the plant.
2. Place the aloe vera gel in a bowl. Mix the olive oil with the gel.
3. Apply the mixture on your scalp and hair.

Moisture Whipped Mango Butter
Hair butter can assist with sealing moisture and also protect your ends. This recipe is moisturizing and also smells like summer!
Ingredients:
½ of mango butter
1 teaspoon of avocado oil
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
1 teaspoon of jojoba oil
Steps:
1. Boil 1-2 cups of water in a pot. Once your water is boiling, set the pot to the side and allow it to cool for 1-2 minutes.
2. Place your mango butter in a heat safe container. Place the heat safe container into the pot. This will melt the butter and allow it to soften.
3. After 5-10 minutes, you will notice the butter has softened. Carefully remove the heat safe container from the pot and place your butter in a bowl. Use a hand mixer or spoon to whip the butter.
4. Add oils to the mixture. Use the mixer or spoon to whip the butter.
5. Depending on the texture of your butter, allow it to solidify before use.

Moisturizing Hair Oil
Hair oil can assist with moisturizing dry hair. The winter months can often leave us with dry hair and scalp. I use this mixture when massaging my scalp, which is a great way to circulate the blood flow and can promote hair growth.
Ingredients:
4 oz of olive oil
2 oz of almond oil
2 oz of grapeseed oil
5 drops of rosemary oil
5 drops of peppermint oil
Steps:
1. Mix all of the oils in an applicator bottle. Apply to your hair and scalp when needed.

Enjoy those softer curls!
